New Delhi, March 22: Prime Minister Narendra Modi spoke on the phone with his British counterpart Boris Johnson on Tuesday and discussed the situation in Ukraine, according to an official statement.

According to the statement, the two leaders had a detailed discussion on the situation in Ukraine, and Modi reiterated India’s constant call for a cessation of hostilities and a return to the path of dialogue and diplomacy.

He underscored India’s belief in respect for international law and the territorial integrity and sovereignty of all states, as the foundation of the contemporary world order.

The two leaders also discussed issues of bilateral interests and agreed on the possibility of further deepening cooperation in various fields, including trade, technology, investment, defense and security and people-to-people relations.

The Indian Prime Minister expressed satisfaction with the positive momentum of the ongoing negotiations on the bilateral free trade agreement. He also appreciated the progress made in the implementation of the ‘India-UK Roadmap 2030‘ adopted during the virtual summit between the two leaders last year.

He expressed his desire to welcome Johnson to India at the earliest, as mutually convenient.
