It’s been four months since Hoda Kotb announced her split from fiancé Joel Schiffman, but the Today The show’s co-host isn’t quite ready to get back into the dating game. Kotb recently opened up about how she’s enjoying her single life and her thoughts on returning to the dating scene in a chat with entertainment tonight.
Speaking with the outlet as she walked the red carpet at The Hollywood ReporterAt the annual Most Powerful People in New York event on Tuesday, Kotb admitted she’s in no rush to start dating again. Instead, the Today The anchor said she was “tip-toeing” when it came to getting back on the dating scene and was “treating this time away” as a single woman. Kotb told the outlet that since her split, she’s “really enjoyed my kids and my life.” Kotb is mum to daughters, Haley Joy, 5, and Hope Catherine, 3.
When Kotb decides to re-enter the dating game, anyone who wants to bring her down won’t have it easy. Kotb’s Today Co-host Savannah Guthrie, who appeared alongside Kotb with Jenna Bush Hager, joked that “anyone who wants to date Hoda has to go through us first.” Hager added, “Yeah, and good luck. She has two sisters who are extremely protective. Good luck!” The comments made Kotb laugh.
The candid discussion about his love life followed the Jan. 31 news that Kotb and Schiffman have decided to go their separate ways. Kotb announced its split on Today, telling viewers that after “lots of prayerful and meaningful conversations,” she and Schiffman “decided that we were better off as friends and relatives than we are as an engaged couple, so we decided that we We were going to start this new year on our new path as loving parents to our adorable children and as friends.” Kotb went on to explain that “it’s not like anything happened. They say sometimes relationships are meant to be there for a reason or a season or a lifetime, it was for a season.”
Kotb and Schiffman’s split came three years after Schiffman, a financier, got down on his knees and popped the question in November 2019. The former couple first went public with their relationship in 2015 after two years of attendance. Although they originally planned to get married in November 2020, they were forced to put those plans on hold due to the COVID-19 pandemic.
